Kolkata: The night traffic trials at Chingrighata to collect hourly data on traffic volume had been started from Thursday, said Kolkata Traffic Police. The cops stated that these trials — using the slip road near Captain Bhery that connects the Ultadanga-bound flank from Chingrighata flyover to Beliaghata Canal Road-EM Bypass—will continue over the next few days. Sources said it was a crucial step before the two weekend night traffic blocks at Chingrighata in Feb for the metro viaduct construction.“The first trial is starts between 8 am and 8.30 am and continues until 11 am to 11.30 am. The next cycle starts from 5 pm and continues until 8 pm to 8.30 pm,” said an officer leading the trials. “This cycle may change as per need,” said an officer. “We will familiarise motorists at night with the new road and study signal cycles before the RVNL carries out construction,” said DC (Traffic) Yeilwad Shrikant Jagannathrao. “We wanted a traffic post at Majherpara that was set up after Metro said it would foot the expenses,” said a police source. Vehicles will use the new road near Captain Bhery, to the left of the Chingrighata Flyover, to reach Majherpara. Vehicles will continue on the new road—with a few curves—to converge back at the crossing.
