Vadodara: This Saturday, the city will witness creativity with a canine twist as around 70 dogs turn artists, painting abstract artworks in a unique event designed to champion equality between street and pedigree dogs.Organized by three city-based dog lovers, the event aims to break stereotypes and promote equality between street and pedigree dogs. “There is a common misconception that street dogs are not as intelligent as pedigree breeds. In reality, all dogs share the same compassion and loyalty towards humans. This painting workshop is our way of showing that dogs, regardless of their breed, are equal,” said organizer Abhishek Borkar.Explaining the process, Borkar said acrylic colours will be placed on a canvas, which will be sealed inside a transparent plastic bag. The dog’s favourite food will be smeared on the outside of the bag. “As the dog licks the food, the pressure causes the colours beneath to spread randomly, resulting in a unique abstract artwork,” he said.Once completed, the paintings will be displayed to visitors, who will be asked to guess whether a particular artwork was created by a street dog or a pedigree dog. “It will be impossible to tell the difference, reinforcing the message that all dogs deserve equal treatment,” said another organizer, Hardik Sampat.Sampat, Borkar and Adhiraj Shah are jointly organising the event on Vasna-Bhayli Road, with a focus on encouraging the adoption of street dogs. An exhibition of the artworks is planned at an art gallery next week, marking what the organizers claim will be the state’s first dog-art exhibition. The event will also feature a fashion show and a free medical camp for dogs.
