Imphal: In a major security concern just days ahead of Republic Day celebrations, security forces in Manipur recovered three IEDs along the sensitive India-Myanmar border.Police said the explosives were detected during an intensive area domination and sanitisation operation near border pillars 72-73 on Monday and were safely neutralised in situ.Authorities noted that the operation was part of heightened security measures to prevent cross-border infiltration and potential sabotage in the strategically important region. The recovery comes amid repeated incidents of damage to the India-Myanmar border fence. Recently, a large section of fencing was found cut at New Samtal near Border Pillar 62 and subsidiary pillar 62/2 in Chandel district.Earlier, on Dec 4, 2025, miscreants had cut around 150 metres of fencing near Border Pillars 67 and 68 close to Changpol village, while in Aug 2025, another section was destroyed in Tengnoupal district.Officials of the Assam Rifles, which guards the border, have remained tight-lipped over the repeated incidents. Inspector General (South) Major General Ravroop Singh declined to comment when questioned by reporters. In a separate development, Manipur Police recovered six stolen vehicles during a coordinated operation against an inter-state theft racket, based on inputs from Delhi Police. The vehicles were traced to Churachandpur and Imphal West districts, with assistance from ICICI Lombard Insurance Company and technical support teams.Additionally, a joint team of Manipur Police and the CRPF Sector Quick Action Team arrested Juma Khan (39) of Yairipok Bishnunaha, identified as a key player in the racket and wanted in multiple serious cases.Police said efforts are underway to trace and recover more stolen vehicles across the state.
