Dhubri: The Dhubri district unit of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (Aamsu) on Tuesday held a two-hour sit-in protest in front of the district commissioner’s office, alleging large-scale irregularities and a govt ‘conspiracy’ in preparation of the Special Revision (SR) of the electoral rolls.More than 100 activists of the student body participated in the demonstration, holding placards and raising slogans.Speaking to TOI, Aamsu’s Dhubri district president Alfaruqe Asiqure Rahman alleged that electoral registration officers of the concerned assembly constituencies were issuing notices based on illegal objections and giving voters short notice to appear. Rahman further alleged that, acting on the instructions of EROs, booth level officers (BLOs) were arbitrarily deleting names of genuine voters from the rolls.Terming the entire exercise a “conspiracy,” the student leader claimed that voters belonging to the minority community were being specifically targeted and harassed during the process.
