Nurse alleges 4L fraud over fake govt job promise

Surat: A private hospital nurse living in the Sachin area of Surat has filed a cheating complaint against a woman and her husband for allegedly duping her of Rs 4 lakh by falsely promising to secure her a govt job using political influence. The complainant, Mahima Gamit (32), works as a nurse at a private hospital in the Citylight area. She currently resides at Raj Abhishek City Homes in Pardi-Kande village near Sachin and hails from Anandpur village in Uchchhal taluka of Tapi district.According to the complaint, around one-and-a-half years ago, Mahima’s sister-in-law Ranjita Mavchi, a resident of Mahad in Raigad district, Maharashtra, visited Surat along with her friend Sunita Padvi, a resident of Nandurbar, Maharashtra. After missing their bus back to Mahad, the two stayed overnight at Mahima’s residence.During their stay, Sunita allegedly introduced herself as a Shiv Sena leader and claimed that her husband, Ashwin Padvi, was a teacher in Mahad taluka. She further claimed to have strong political connections and the ability to secure govt jobs, asking Mahima to contact her if she was interested.Mahima, who holds a GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) qualification, expressed her interest in a govt nursing job. Sunita allegedly assured her of assistance and asked her to get in touch once recruitment was announced. In Nov 2024, when recruitment notifications were issued by the Gujarat govt’s health department, Mahima contacted Sunita. The accused allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh to arrange the job. Trusting her claims, Mahima arranged Rs 3 lakh by borrowing money at interest and transferred the entire amount to Sunita through online transactions.Sunita allegedly told Mahima that she only needed to appear for the examination and that the remaining process would be “managed”. Mahima appeared for the exam in the Vesu area of Surat, but when results were declared in March 2025, she failed. When Mahima demanded a refund, Sunita initially promised to arrange a meeting with the person involved but later stopped responding to her calls. Following this, Mahima approached the police.
