Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Corruption Team on Tuesday arrested a sub-inspector and an outsourced employee posted at the prosecution office for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 in exchange for not adding the names of accused persons in an assault case.Those arrested were identified as sub-inspector Suresh Kumar Yadav, posted at Badousarai Police Station, and Ashfaq, an outsourced staff member deployed at the district prosecution office in Barabanki.
According to officials, an assault case was registered against Suraj and some unidentified persons. The investigation of the case was handled by sub-inspector Yadav. During the probe, Suraj was allegedly threatened that additional accused would be identified and implicated unless he paid a bribe. Troubled by the demand, Suraj approached the Anti-Corruption Team and lodged a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, the team laid a trap. Joint director (prosecution) Nagesh Dixit said a report regarding Ashfaq’s involvement was forwarded for departmental action.
