Delhi police arrested history sheeter for snatching US citizens phone in Chandni Chowk

New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested a 33-year-old history-sheeter for allegedly snatching a US citizen’s phone in Chandni Chowk. The snatching took place late at night on Jan 15 outside Omaxe Mall in Chandni Chowk, when a 37-year-old US national, Jing Teng, came to the area for shopping, was targeted by a scooty-borne snatcher. Following a complaint by Teng, a case was registered at Kotwali police station on Jan 16. “CCTV footage provided clear images of the suspect fleeing after the snatching, even as the victim attempted to chase him,” DCP (North) Raja Banthia said. The accused was identified as Tausif, a resident of Ajmeri Gate and a known history-sheeter of Kamla Market police station. Multiple raids were conducted at his possible hideouts, leading to his arrest on Jan 19 from the GB Road area, where police said he was planning another crime. Police recovered the stolen phone from Tausif’s house and also seized the scooty used in the crime. He further admitted involvement in another mobile snatching incident near Old Delhi Railway Station earlier this month, helping police solve a second case registered at Lahori Gate police station.
