Jaisalmer: Farmers from Gudamalani in Balotra district Tuesday headed to the SDM’s office on tractors and briefly clashed with police when they were stopped with barricades. The farmers then blocked the mega highway from Barmer to Bikaner, raised slogans, and sang bhajans.
After this, they left their tractors and reached the SDM office on foot, where they were still sitting on dharna when last reports came in.Talks were held at the SDM’s office with a delegation of farmers by officials including Balotra ADM, Gudamalani SDM, and ASPs of Barmer and Balotra. Farmers stated that they had held a dharna on Dec 9 as well but their demands, including insurance claims, subsidies, and removal of encroachments from land meant for a Kisan Vigyan Kendra, had not been fulfilled.
Meanwhile, former minister and Congress leader Hemaram Chaudhary urged people to rise above caste and party on farmers’ issues, gather together, and maintain unity in the struggle to get farmers their due from the state govt.
