Berhampur: Deputy ranger of Belaghar range in Baliguda forest division, Binay Kumar Bisi, has been suspended for allegedly hiding the death of an elephant in his area a few days ago.The suspension order was issued on him on Monday evening after the regional chief conservator of forests (RCCF), Berhampur circle, Viswanath Neelambaran, divisional forest officer (DFO), Baliguda, Ghanashyam Mahant visited the area on Monday after knowing about the death of an elephant.“Without intimating his higher officer and conducting post-mortem, he had allegedly buried the carcass. The officers did not find the elephant carcass at the spot where he allegedly buried it during their inquiry, official sources said.

DFO, Baliguda has ordered the assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Baliguda, Manoranjan Bagha to inquire into the incident,” said RCCF on Tuesday.The elephant’s death came to light due to a rumor and the DFO conducted a preliminary inquiry. A sub-adult elephant was suspected to have died due to electrocution. “The exact cause of elephant’s death, its sex and age would be known only after recovery of its carcass,” said the RCCF.
