Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar spearheaded the initiative by integrating ultra and very high frequency, and analogue communication systems. Assistant commissioner of police (communication and IT) Vivek Pawar told TOI, “After setting up the integrated communication system, we distributed walkie-talkies to team managers and installed GPS trackers on police vans and motorcycles assisting the tour.

This allows team managers to communicate both with their members and with the cyclists participating in the event.”The police provided 110 walkie-talkie sets, equipped 56 vehicles with GPS trackers, and supplied 80 wireless sets to officers and officials responsible for on-ground management and real-time updates.Given that Pune district includes ghats, hills and valleys, there are stretches of the route where mobile networks are unreliable or unavailable. “The new system has enabled teams to stay connected with each other, with cyclists, and with authorities even in the hilly and rural areas. This channel ensures timely assistance, guidance, and support for both participants and police personnel on the field,” Pawar added.
