Chennai: Health minister Ma Subramanian on Tuesday distributed laptops to 1,520 students from five govt medical colleges in Chennai, as part of the govt’s ‘Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil’ scheme.The beneficiaries included students pursuing undergraduate medical and dental courses, allied health sciences, and nursing programmes in Madras medical college, Stanley govt medical college, govt Kilpauk medical college, Omandurar govt medical college, and the Tamil Nadu govt dental college.

CM M K Stalin launched the initiative on Jan 5 to equip students with digital tools to access opportunities in IT and artificial intelligence. He announced that the govt would distribute 10 lakh laptops at a cost of 2,172 crore to students pursuing higher education across disciplines, including arts, science, engineering, agriculture, and medicine.
