Digital home for three endangered Assam languages

Guwahati: Three critically endangered languages of Assam — Khamyang, Tai Phake and Singpho — have been digitally archived under the Endangered Language Programme, ensuring that their manuscripts, oral traditions, and cultural memories are preserved for generations to come. The initiative was driven by the Nanda Talukdar Foundation with support from an Assam Jatiya Bidyalay trust and sponsorship from All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu).“The ELP is a movement to safeguard languages facing extinction. Similar digitisation exercises will be undertaken for other languages after consultations with community leaders and stakeholders,” Aasu chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya said.
