4 of gang that stole chains from elderly walkers in Gurgaon arrested

Gurgaon: Four persons, who targeted elderly citizens out on morning walks, were arrested on Sunday.Police said the drug-addicts would engage the morning walkers in conversation before snatching gold ornaments. Narendra alias Virendra (40), Balkishan (50), Sumit alias Dheela (31) and Deepak (22) — all residents of Indira Colony in Rohtak district — had allegedly snatched a gold bangle from an elderly man near Surya Vihar Road on Oct 25, 2025. A crime branch team from Sector 17 arrested the four accused from Dujana-Rohtak Road in Jhajjar following sustained surveillance, analysis of technical inputs and tip-offs from reliable sources.“The accused admitted to drug abuse and involvement in crimes such as theft, snatching and robbery. Elderly people were their preferred targets, as they could be easily engaged in conversation,” a police officer said. The accused were produced before a court on Monday. Deepak was sent to judicial custody, while Narendra, Balkishan and Sumit were remanded to three days of police custody. According to police, the victim was on his morning walk around 6am when one of the accused approached him on a scooter and struck up a conversation about old-age pension schemes. Within moments, three other men arrived on a bike and joined the discussion. Taking advantage of the situation, the group snatched the bangle from the man’s hand and fled the spot on the scooter and bike.A case was registered at Sector 09A police station, following which the crime branch initiated an investigation.Police said Narendra faces 16 cases registered across Hisar and Rohtak districts, including assault, theft, snatching, and fraud. Sumit has three cases of theft and snatching registered against him in Hisar, while Balkishan is involved in three cases related to robbery, fraud and is a proclaimed offender in the same district. Deepak faces a case of assault and criminal intimidation registered in Hansi. At the time of their arrest, the accused were travelling in a Kia Seltos car, which police believe was being used to plan another criminal act. The vehicle was seized and was found to be registered in the name of the brother of another accomplice.
