Varanasi: Denying having received any notice from the police to appear before it, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ‘s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Monday said if the officials of the district administration and police do not lodge an FIR against the persons responsible for demolishing Queen Ahilyabai Holkar’s idols at Manikarnika Ghat, he would lodge a case against them.Talking to TOI, Singh said, “I have been roaming in Varanasi for the past 24 hours after being booked in a case by the police. Today, I was informed by my party cadres that the Commissioner of Police is claiming that a notice has been issued to me to appear before them to record my statement. It is interesting that the police also knows that I am present here, but no notice has reached me.” This means there is more political agenda and less intention to take a legal action.““The truth that the structure at Manikarnika Ghat was broken and the idol of Queen Ahilyabai was desecrated was cleared by the govt itself by claiming that it has protected and preserved them,” said Singh, adding that if they were not damaged, why did they find the need to protect them.“If the idols and structures are broken, then those who are responsible for it should be punished,” said Singh, adding that the administration should file an FIR against those persons who broke the ghat and the structures containing idols. Singh said if they do not file it, he would register a case.Singh was in Varanasi for Aam Aadmi Party’s “Give Employment – Give Social Justice” foot march, taken out in the state against unemployment and social injustice.
