Jhansi: The driver of a businessman was arrested on Monday for his involvement in a loot incident that took place on Jan 12 near Semri toll plaza on Jhansi-Kanpur highway near Chirgaon. Two more accused in the case were still at large. Police have recovered Rs 2 lakh of of total looted amount of Rs 7 lakh from the accused, along with 42 scratch and win coupons.The arrested accused, Vikas Pal (23), along with businessman’s accountant Sarvesh Kushwaha, went to Kanpur for some official work. During the trip, Sarvesh’s minor daughter also accompanied them. On the return journey, Sarvesh collected money from 3 of their vendors from different places.After crossing Semri toll plaza, two miscreants on a bike approached them and looted the money at gunpoint. A case was lodged against unknown persons under Section 309(6). During the investigation, police found constant variations in Vikas’s statements. During sustained interrogation, Vikas broke down and revealed that he, along with two more people, hatched the plan for the loot.“Vikas Pal was the key conspirator of the loot. His accomplices were identified as Naresh Parihar and Jitendra, both from Datiya district of MP. The total looted amount was Rs 7 lakh, of which Rs 2 lakh was recovered. Our teams are trying to catch the other 2 accused,” said SSP Jhansi BBGTS Murthy.
