Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday approved the establishment of a 25 tonnes per day (TPD) municipal solid waste-based compressed biogas plant (CBG) at Headland-Sada in Mormugao. This decision followed a proposal from the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), and the council granted the necessary land, approximately 3,000sqm, alongside provisions for an electric transformer and water connection to facilitate the project.MMC chairperson Girish Borkar emphasised the importance of the CBG plant, stating it will convert organic waste into clean fuel. He said that GWMC would invest over Rs 8 crore to bring this initiative to fruition.In other council business, MMC has also decided to increase the medical allowance for its employees from Rs 7,000 to Rs 9,000, in line with the demands outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Goa Municipal Employees Association, which has been pending since 2022. Additionally, workers recently granted temporary status by govt will receive a Rs 3,000 medical allowance.
