Activists demand probe into death of advocate

Bathinda: The action committee on ‘Justice for Diljot’ has announced protests at the offices of SSP Mansa in Jan and police commissioner Ludhiana on Feb 2, demanding an impartial probe into the ‘mysterious’ death of Advocate Diljot Sharma. The action plan was announced at the bhog ceremony for Diljot at Ralla village in Mansa district.Twenty-five-year-old Diljot worked with a Leftist organisation, and fought cases for poor sections in Ludhiana. She died under mysterious circumstances, with her colleagues stating that she was under depression. The police acted on the basis of a suicide note and conducted legal formalities under unnatural death.

Activists from a number of Left organisations, who assembled at the bhog, stated that they felt Diljot’s death needed to be thoroughly investigated, as it did not seem like a simple suicide case. CPI (ML) Liberation leader Sukhdarshan Singh Natt said they demanded registration of a case and an investigation, and now decided to hold protests in Mansa and Ludhiana to forcefully raise the demand. The deceased Diljot’s mother, Veerpal Kaur, who is an Aaganwadi worker, urged the activists to support the family in demanding a fair probe.Takhat Damdama Sahib’s former Jathedar Giani Kewal Singh also attended the bhog ceremony.
