Gujarat government proposes International Medicity near Kalol with Rs 13,000 crore investment

Gandhinagar: To be modelled on the Dubai Health Care City (DHCC) project, the Gujarat govt has proposed to set up an international-level Medicity near Kadi-Kalol with the aim of marketing Ahmedabad as a medical facilities hub. The govt will spend a sum of about Rs 13,000 crore to set up the facility, which will house high-tech hospitals, R&D centres, a medical college, a wellness centre and other services connected to the health sector. While a blueprint of the ambitious project has been prepared, the state govt is in the process of identifying a land parcel for the project near Kadi or Kalol in north Gujarat.Top sources close to the development said that the project will house Joint Commission International-accredited hospitals, along with supporting enablers such as medical and nursing colleges, R&D centres, a medical devices park, cold chain infrastructure, and the like. “The aim is to develop a centralized hub for medical treatment, rehabilitation, the care economy, and an R&D zone for pharma, biotech, and allied sectors,” sources said. The project is expected to be implemented through a medical value travel (MVT) board which will have representatives of the state health and tourism department. “The govt intends to complete the project on priority by 2028,” sources said.Sources said the area around Kalol-Kadi is suitable for the project as there are medical and nursing colleges within the proposed area. Also, the region has premier hospital and healthcare brands, is close to the Ahmedabad airport and has proximity to a pharma cluster.DHCC is a premier, state-of-the-art healthcare, wellness, and wellbeing hub, hosting a range of premium global and regional healthcare providers. The city features a zone dedicated to healthcare and medical education, a healthcare zone for service delivery, and residential, commercial, and hospitality zones.
