Dibrugarh: A grand bike and car rally traversed through Jorhat town and major townships of the district on Monday as part of the National Road Safety Month. The rally, led by top district officials, aimed to spread awareness.DC Jay Shivani and district transport officer Dhananjoy Saikia led the rally in distinctive style. They were onboard a World War II-era US vintage open jeep that set the tone for the procession. The historic vehicle, followed by a convoy of participating cars and bikes, created a striking visual as it wound through the district’s major urban centres. The rally adopted an extensive district-wide approach, making strategic stops at Titabor, Mariani, Teok, and Pulibor, ensuring that the road safety message reached all major towns across Jorhat district.

At each halt, Shivani and Saikia addressed crowds, highlighting critical aspects of road safety and traffic awareness. The interactive sessions allowed officials to directly engage with citizens on issues ranging from helmet usage and seatbelt compliance to responsible driving practices and pedestrian safety.“Road safety is not just about following rules, it is about respecting the value of human life. Through this rally, we want to remind every citizen that their safety is our priority, but the change must begin with their own commitment to traffic discipline,” Shivani said.“We chose this format to grab people’s attention, especially the youth. Using the vintage jeep and the rally format helped us engage with people directly, ensuring that the rules of the road are not just heard but understood and followed,” Saikia added. The administration has planned several more programmes throughout the month, including workshops for commercial drivers and school-level competitions, to ensure that the spirit of National Road Safety Month translates into a permanent reduction in road mishaps across Jorhat.
