Gurgaon: A car in former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar’s convoy was damaged in an accident on Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH8) in Nuh on Sunday. Police said a truck moving ahead on the highway suddenly applied brakes, triggering a chain collision.

No injuries were reported, an officer said.The accident occurred around 7.30am near Rithath village in Nagina block when the convoy was travelling from Delhi towards Jaipur. As the truck braked abruptly, a WagonR following the truck rammed into it from behind, after which an Ertiga that was part of the former VP’s escort also collided with the vehicles ahead. Another vehicle passing close to the convoy was also caught in the crash.

The impact damaged the front ends of both cars. While the convoy vehicle’s bonnet was crushed, the WagonR was badly mangled, with its engine dislodged.Police said all officials, security personnel and drivers travelling in the convoy were safe. Pinangwan police reached the spot shortly after receiving information, regulated traffic on the busy stretch and moved the damaged vehicles to the roadside, following which traffic was restored.Police spokesperson Krishna Kumar said the truck driver fled the spot after the accident, abandoning the vehicle. “Efforts are on to trace the driver,” he said, adding that CCTV footage from the area is being examined to establish the sequence of events.
