Varanasi: Two gangrape accused were shot in leg and arrested after an encounter near Savas turning under Sadat police station of Ghazipur early Sunday.CO (Sadat) Ramkrishna Tiwari stated that a police team was on night patrol when they got a tip-off about two accused in a recent gang-rape case near the Sadat railway station.

The police team blocked the Savas turning and started checking vehicles in the early hours.

The two accused were passing through when cops surrounded them. They tried to escape and opened fire at the police team. Police retaliated, shooting both the accused in the leg. The police recovered two country-made firearms and cartridges from their possession.The accused were identified as Rahul Bhardwaj and Arun Yadav. During interrogation, they confessed to gangraping a woman. Tiwari said the duo was also wanted in other criminal cases lodged at different police stations.
