Pune: Purpose-driven leadership, supported by strong process discipline and hands-on learning, is critical to building globally competitive manufacturing enterprises, said Bharat Gite, managing director and chief executive officer of Taural India, during an interaction themed ‘Stories and Samvad’ on Jan 14 at the Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR) in Pune.Gite traced his journey from Parali in Beed district of Maharashtra to building a world-class aluminium manufacturing enterprise in India. An alumnus of the College of Engineering, Pune, and RWTH Aachen University, Germany, he shared how his global exposure with companies such as BMW and Mahle GmbH shaped his understanding of manufacturing excellence and quality systems.

Despite professional opportunities abroad, Gite said he chose to return to India, inspired by the ‘Make in India‘ vision. This decision led to the establishment of Taural India, which today caters to the defence, aerospace, railways and healthcare sectors.Describing aluminium as a strategically vital material, Gite said strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities would help reduce dependence on imports in sensitive sectors. He spoke about Taural’s growth from a team of 10 to over 1,000 employees, attributing it to a strong focus on quality, continuous learning and measured expansion.Gite also underlined the importance of staying connected to operations, respecting labour and embracing continuous learning and unlearning. Addressing students, he urged them to pursue meaningful work, remain connected to their roots and contribute responsibly to nation-building. He also highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment through confident participation in industry.Chakan and Khed Shivapur, he said, were strategic choice for Taural’s facilities due to strong industrial ecosystems, skilled manpower and logistical advantages. He recalled receiving international recognition in Frankfurt, where a German industrialist acknowledged Taural’s plant as among the best-performing in the sector.The session was attended by PGDM students, faculty members and staff. Dr Shikha Jain, director, IMDR Pune, was also present on the occasion.
