Guwahati: Assam will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Switzerland for the first time, with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma set to present the state’s investment opportunities before global business leaders, an official statement from the CMO said on Sunday.The CM will represent Assam at the WEF in Davos from Jan 19 to 23.During the five-day forum, Sarma is scheduled to attend more than 17 meetings, sign key agreements, and showcase Assam’s investment potential before global CEOs and financial institutions. His participation is expected to boost the state’s economic prospects and attract major international investments.According to the statement, Sarma will present various development plans, highlighting Assam’s strengths and growth potential.

The CM will also take part in discussions on future-oriented themes, including the next industrial era, workforce security, travel and tourism, as a potential $10 trillion global destination.“The Govt of India has given Assam the opportunity to represent the country alongside other leading states. Earlier, only top states represented India at the WEF, but this is the first time Assam has been given such an opportunity,” the communiqué said.The statement added that the CM will engage with global entrepreneurs, economists, CEOs of multinational companies, and leaders from institutions such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and World Trade Organization.“It is noteworthy that any state, organization, or country that presents a compelling case at the WEF can attract renowned global investors. Following the successful Advantage Assam summit, the CM’s participation in the WEF is expected to have a significant impact on Assam’s investment and economic sectors,” it said.The WEF will also see the participation of prominent political leaders from across the world, including the President of the US.The five-day conference will cover a wide range of topics, including inclusive development and the digital revolution in Assam and India.Along with Assam, nine other Indian states will participate in the forum, with five CMs and four Union ministers attending.
