Pune: Four members of the family of a candidate, who contested civic elections and lost, abused, threatened and beat up their cousins at Bhawani Peth around 1.30pm on Friday.The victim’s family members lodged a complaint with the Khadak police and a case was registered against the four members of the candidate’s family of house trespass, intentional insult and causing hurt.Senior inspector Shashikant Chavan of Khadak police said, “The brother of the four accused lost the civic elections with a margin of 3,500 votes, while the member of their cousin’s family got 2,500 votes. The accused thought that these 2,500 votes were crucial and could have changed the results for their brother.”“The picture of the contest became clear around 1.30 pm and soon the accused reached the victim family’s house and abused them,” he said.“Both cousins lost the elections and the four members of one of the families decided to teach a lesson to the other family because the accused claimed that victim’s campaigning resulted in the loss of their candidate,” he said.
