Jaipur: To excel in Class 12 English exam, teachers advise students to stop acting like a bookworm and start thinking like a communicator.Gauri Pradhan, English teacher at Gyan Vihar School, said students should treat the answer sheet less like a test and more like a conversation.“Unseen passages are often the first stumbling block for students. Instead of wading through the whole text immediately, glance at the questions first. This gives your brain a specific target to hit. When students find the answer, they must resist the urge to copy it word for word; rather, rephrase it slightly,” said Pradhan, adding that it shows the student did not just spot the sentence but understood the context, too.For the writing section, she said for functional tasks like notices and invitations, the format is non-negotiable. “A neat box and a sharp heading are essentially free marks waiting to be taken. For longer articles, the opening is everything. Students can use a quote or a surprising statistic,” said Pradhan. For literature sections, students must look for the subtext instead of memorising the plot. While preparing poetry from the syllabus, students must spot the metaphors, similes, and alliterations. “For prose, students should try to get inside the characters’ heads. Students must weave specific keywords from the NCERT textbook,” she added.
