Kolkata/Singur: The debate over “land” and “consent” returned to Singur on Friday, two decades after the issue firmly placed this belt on Bengal’s political map during the anti-land acquisition protests.
PM Narendra Modi is likely to address a public rally in Singur on Sunday.While Trinamool’s Haripal MLA Karabi Manna protested at the Singur police station against BJP for forcibly taking land for the Prime Minister’s meeting without owners’ consent, more than 400 farmers, many of whom did not agree to give their land for the Tata Singur plant, gave consent to use their land for PM Modi’s rally on Sunday, Bengal BJP netas said.
Manna on Friday staged a protest in front of Singur police station, alleging that the Prime Minister’s rally did not have consent from all farmers whose land was likely to be occupied for the programme scheduled on Sunday.2 agitating farmers, Sukdeb Sahana and Dilip Samanta, said that the BJP netas did not take any permission from them to organise the rally on the ground. Bengal BJP netas said that the land belonging to the complainants was far away from the rally site.
