Chandigarh: UT chief secretary H Rajesh Prasad Thursday inspected gaushalas at Raipur Kalan and the Industrial Area, along with the incinerator and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Centre at Raipur Kalan, to review the facilities and arrangements for the care and upkeep of cattle and dogs.Officials said Prasad conducted a detailed assessment of the sites, interacted with staff, and issued strict instructions to strengthen monitoring and ensure transparency in operations.
The chief secretary said the incinerator at the Raipur Kalan gaushala had remained non-functional for a few days due to a technical fault but was being repaired and would be operational soon.Prasad said around 1,000 cattle are currently housed in the city’s gaushalas and essential arrangements for feeding, drinking water and shelter are in place.For better management and accountability, he directed that complete details of manpower — including veterinary doctors and support staff — along with their daily duty rosters, be prominently displayed at each gaushala. He also instructed installation of separate boards showing the daily availability and consumption of green and dry fodder to enable transparent monitoring.He emphasised strict adherence to CCTV surveillance and regular review of footage to ensure round-the-clock monitoring. Directions were also issued to maintain all gaushalas in a clean and hygienic condition.Prasad further instructed that uneven areas inside the gaushala premises be levelled with appropriate slope to ensure proper drainage and cleanliness. He said regular inspections, compliance with prescribed norms and timely maintenance of infrastructure were essential for smooth and humane functioning of gaushalas in the UT.Meanwhile, municipal councillors from opposition parties also visited gaushalas and cattle pounds in the Industrial Area and Maloya on Thursday. Accompanied by officials, they asked for corrective measures to address anomalies and improve operations.
