Ahmedabad: City police on Thursday night busted a high-profile liquor party at the residence of a well-known city-based social media influencer, barely a stone’s throw from the Gujarat University police station. The raid was conducted at a flat in the Centennial Vista building during the vasi Uttarayan celebrations.Police said they acted on a complaint received at the control room regarding loud music and illegal activities. A team from the Gujarat University police station reached the premises and found a DJ party in progress, with men and women allegedly consuming liquor, dancing and smoking hookah.Around 30 people were present at the venue when the police arrived. However, only 16 persons were detained for questioning till late Thursday night, while the others were allowed to leave after preliminary verification, police said. The influencer was also being questioned in connection with the gathering. Liquor bottles, hookah material, a DJ system and other items were seized from the house.Gujarat University police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Prohibition Act and other applicable laws. Police have begun examining the role of the house owner, the source of the liquor, and whether any permissions were violated.
