Gorakhpur: The East Zone Inter-University Women’s Basketball Championship will get underway on Friday at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University. The championship will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Teams from 31 universities representing 11 states are taking part in the five-day tournament.According to secretary of the university’s sports council, Rajveer Singh, the inter-university competition is being organised at the university after a gap of six years.Eight matches each will be played on first three days, followed by six matches on the fourth day and four on the final day. Pools A, B and D have eight teams each, while Pool C comprises seven teams.Uttar Pradesh Basketball Association has deputed 12 referees who reached Gorakhpur. The opening match will be played between Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur and Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh.Vice-chancellor Prof Poonam Tandon said hosting the championship was a matter of pride.
