Cattle smuggler with criminal history held after encounter

Varanasi: A notorious cattle smuggler was arrested following a police encounter here late night on Wednesday.Sharing details, ACP Kotwali Vijay Pratap Singh said that after being alerted about the movement of cattle smuggler Guddu Ansari of Mirzamurad on the Mirzapur-Varanasi route, Ramnagar police cordoned off the area near Bandargah turn and started checking vehicles. Around midnight, two motorcycle-borne persons were signalled to stop, but they turned their bike towards Bandargah Road and tried to flee. When police chased them, they turned onto the unpaved road but fell down as their bike slipped. Before police could get close to them, one of them fled the scene on the motorcycle while Guddu Ansari opened fire at the police. In retaliatory firing by police, he was hit in the right leg and caught. After recovering a pistol and cartridges, police rushed him to hospital. He had five criminal cases to his credit.Earlier on Sunday morning, Ramnagar police had rescued 10 cattle loaded in a pickup near Bhiti by arresting Jitendra Kumar and Karan Vishwakarma. However, Guddu Ansari had managed to escape.
