Patna: A 22-year-old man was shot dead at Janglimandal Tola under Mufassil police station area of Khagaria district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Tonish Kumar (22), a resident of Dandari police station area in Begusarai. On Thursday morning, his family was informed that Tonish, who visited his in-laws first time with his wife, had gone alone for a walk towards the fields, where he was shot dead.According to police, Tonish had visited his in-laws’ house five days ago where he was shot dead. The victim’s family alleged that he was killed by in-laws over an illicit affair between his wife and her brother-in-law (jija). His wife Indu Devi, sister-in-law Khushboo Devi, mother-in-law Renu Devi, and father-in-law Amin Yadav have been arrested in connection with this case.
Mufassil SHO Sangeeta Kumari said, “The victim’s family had filed a written complaint naming five people involved in the murder. Four have been arrested, and raids are on to nab the remaining accused. The case is being investigated from all angles.”The deceased’s uncle, Niranjan Yadav, said, “Tonish married Indu on Dec 9 last year. After the wedding, Indu came to live in Begusarai. Meanwhile, she often talked to someone on the phone. When we asked, she said it was her family member. She insisted on visiting her maternal home, saying her sister and brother-in-law were coming for New Year celebrations. Tonish told her to celebrate with us and promised to take her to Khagaria on Makar Sankranti. On Jan 10, Tonish left for Khagaria with Indu.”Police said there had been an affair between Indu and her brother-in-law before the marriage. Tonish and Indu also fought over the issue on Jan 12. On Thursday morning, the family was informed that Tonish had gone alone for a walk towards the fields, where he was shot dead.(With inputs from N P Thakur in Khagaria)
