Buxar: Police foiled an attempt to smuggle ganja and seized 22 kg of the contraband in the Naya Bhojpur police station area of Buxar district on Wednesday. Two smugglers were arrested, while other members of the gang managed to escape.Buxar SP Shubham Arya said a special drive against narcotics is underway across the district. Acting on a tip-off, police learned that a large consignment of ganja was being loaded under the Naya Bhojpur bridge into a white car and a black-and-yellow autorickshaw, he said.
“After verifying the information, a special team was formed under the leadership of Dumraon SDPO Polast Kumar. The team cordoned off the area and conducted a raid. On seeing the police, the accused tried to flee. However, two of them were apprehended on the spot. A search of both vehicles led to the recovery of 22 kg of ganja,” the SP said.Police also seized an autorickshaw, a car, and two cellphones from the spot. The arrested accused were identified as Akhilesh Kumar Yadav, son of Vidyasagar Yadav, and Harendra Mali, son of Chunalal Mali, both residents of Dullahapur village under Simri police station area in Buxar district.“A case has been registered at Naya Bhojpur police station in this regard, and further legal action is underway. Raids are being conducted to arrest the absconding accused,” the SP added, emphasising that Buxar police are following a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.
