Chandigarh: Cyber fraudsters duped two Chandigarh residents of nearly Rs 30 lakh in separate online investment scams, police said on Tuesday. Two FIRs have been registered, and investigations are underway to trace the culprits and the money trail.In the first case, Sumer Singh Saini of Sector 61 received a Facebook message from a woman claiming to be Shunidhi Chouhan from Dehradun. She introduced herself as a trader and persuaded him to invest in an online scheme promising 10-30% returns. After registering on a website she shared, Saini transferred over Rs 15 lakh over time. His account displayed a profit of Rs 1 crore, but when he tried to withdraw funds, the fraudsters demanded an additional Rs 21.33 lakh, citing a “frozen account.” Realizing the scam, he approached the cyber police.In another case, Sunny Kumar of Manimajra fell prey to a YouTube link promoting a share trading business. He downloaded an app named “ADVPMA” and was coaxed into investing in stages. Starting with Rs 5,000, he eventually transferred Rs 14.4 lakh under repeated assurances of high returns. The accused later became untraceable.Both cases have been registered under relevant sections at the Cyber Police Station, Sector 17. Officials said efforts are on to identify the suspects and dismantle the network behind these scams.
