Man held for murdering stepmom, bro

Varanasi: A man was accused of murdering his stepmother and her son with a sharp-edged weapon, early Tuesday. Police recovered both bodies and arrested the accused, identified as Rahul Gupta, resident of Patehara village under Manihan police station in Mirzapur district.Mirzapur ASP (operations) Manish Kumar Mishra said Manihan police arrested the accused and seized the tractor-trolley on which he had carried the bodies of his stepmother, Usha Gupta (62) and her son, Ayush Gupta (32), to dispose of them. The sharp-edged weapon used in the double murder was also seized from his possession, said police, adding that the bodies were sent for post mortem. A property dispute was suspected as motive behind the double murder.In the early hours of Tuesday, locals at Manihan market alerted police after noticing Rahul attempting to load a body on the tractor-trolley. When police questioned Rahul, he confessed that he murdered his stepmother and stepbrother and was taking their bodies to dispose of them in a canal. While passing through the market, Ayush’s body fell off the vehicle near the crossing. After dumping the woman’s body, he returned and found Ayush’s body in the market and tried to load it back on the tractor trolley, when locals saw him. Rahul fled and reached his home, where police caught him. On the basis of his confession, police reached the canal and engaged divers to search for his stepmother’s body, which was found floating near Hasra village, about 3.5 kms away from Patewar village.During interrogation, Rahul confessed to murdering the duo over a property dispute. It came to light that Rahul was in dispute with his stepmother and her son over parental property for years. They had quarrelled early Tuesday morning and Rahul attacked them, killing them on the spot.
