Vadodara: The death of an Afghan PhD scholar in the Fatehgunj area of the city is prima facie believed to have been caused by cardiac arrest, police said on Sunday.The body of the deceased, identified as Bainullah Ziya, was found at his residence late on Saturday night after friends grew concerned when he failed to respond to repeated knocks on the door. They subsequently alerted the police.
Police officials said Ziya was found lying unresponsive inside his apartment and was declared dead. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, following which preliminary findings indicated cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death.A senior police officer said that viscera samples were nevertheless collected and sent for forensic analysis, as some medicines were found at the scene. “While there are no immediate signs of foul play, we are awaiting the forensic report to rule out any other possibilities,” the officer said.Officials from the Afghan embassy coordinated with local authorities to arrange for the repatriation of the body. The mortal remains were flown to Delhi on Sunday, from where they were to be taken onward to Afghanistan by air.Police said further investigation is underway, pending the post-mortem and forensic reports.
