Diamond worker caught with 5L in counterfeit notes

Surat: Special operations group (SOG) police here arrested a diamond worker from Varachha with 1,001 counterfeit currency notes of the Rs 500 denomination — a face value of Rs 5 lakh. The accused was identified as Paresh Hadiya (27). Acting on a tip-off, SOG teams intercepted Hadiya and seized the fake notes. SOG DCP Rajdeep Nakum said Hadiya procured the notes from a wanted suspect, Raju Vaghamashi. “Hadiya worked for a diamond company for six months and has been circulating counterfeit currency for the last year. He circulated notes worth around Rs 25 lakh in this period,” Nakum said.Police said Hadiya would keep 25% of the profit while passing on 75% to Vaghamashi, who supplied the counterfeit notes. A search is on to trace and arrest the main supplier.
