Prayagraj: The dilapidated railway over bridge (ROB), built about six decades ago in front of the High Court water tank, will soon be demolished and replaced with a new structure providing major relief to commuters. The existing ROB serves as a vital link between the old and the new city. According to Setu Nigam officials, the new ROB will be constructed at a cost of around Rs 52 crore. “The proposal was sent to the state govt in May 2025, and an order is expected within 2 months. If everything goes as planned, work will begin by June and be completed within 2 years,” said Setu Nigam project manager Rohit Mishra. In 2024, a joint inspection carried out by PWD and Setu Nigam teams found girders and slabs to be severely damaged.

Following this, PWD declared the bridge structurally unsafe, and movement of 4-wheelers was completely stopped. The bridge is around 550m long and earlier catered to an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles daily. A new ROB constructed adjacent to the old one in 2018 is currently being used for traffic. With the Kumbh Mela scheduled in Prayagraj in 2031, authorities emphasised the need to complete the new bridge well in time.
