Porvorim: Untimely, heavy and incessant rainfall during the second half of 2025 affected 4,136 farmers across talukas in the state, damaging over 800 hectares of agricultural land, according to data shared at the ongoing assembly session.The estimated crop loss listed Bicholim and Mapusa in North Goa, and Canacona and Quepem in South Goa among the worst-hit regions during this period.

“Crop compensation to approximately 95% of farmers who applied with krishi cards for crop loss has been disbursed. Disbursals to those who applied late will be completed within one month,” said chief minister Pramod Sawant while replying to a starred question that was tabled by Aldona Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira, and Fatorda GFP legislator Vijai Sardesai.“Disbursements to applicants whose bank account details are not matching will be completed once correct bank details are submitted by them. Furthermore, the cases of non-krishi card holders whose crops were damaged during the second half of the 2025-26 financial year (during Oct 2025) have been submitted for state govt approval and will be settled once approval is received,” he added.State govt provides crop compensation to farmers in Goa who are krishi card holders under the Shetkari Aadhar Nidhi scheme.Among the most affected regions in 2025 was Mapusa, where heavy and incessant rain impacted 1,251 farmers and damaged 459.5 hectares of agricultural land. The crop loss compensation for the farmers of Mapusa is estimated to be Rs 58 lakh.The least affected region identified by state govt was Dharbandora, where heavy rainfall last year impacted 17 farmers and 4.8 hectares of agricultural land, causing an estimated crop loss worth Rs 2.8 lakh.
