Jhansi: A senior clerk of the Public Works Department (PWD) was caught red-handed by the officials of the anti-corruption department on Tuesday taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 for releasing his father’s pension. Victim, Ghanshyam Kushwaha, a Grade-4 employee, retired on Oct 31, 2025. expected his gratuity and pension. While part of his gratuity was released, the rest of the amount was pending.The victim’s son, Rajendra Kushwaha, an auto-rickshaw driver, met the clerk concerned, Santosh Niranjan who demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 for releasing the pending amount. Meanwhile, Rajendra approached the anti-corruption department . On Tuesday, Rajendra reached the office with the first instalment. The moment Niranjan took the money the trap team caught him.The team leader Shyam Singh said Niranjan was booked under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He will be produced before the special magistrate in Lucknow on Wednesday.
