Varanasi: Police arrested a liquor smuggler and recovered 9,086.4 litres of illegal Indian made foreign liquor worth Rs 75 lakh in Narhi police station area of Ballia district on Sunday. The accused, Achala Ram, resident of Barmer district of Rajasthan, was booked under sections 60/63/72 Excise Act at Narhi police station.According to reports, police team led by Narho SO Virendra Kumar Singh was on duty at Ujiyar Ghat Korantadih when they received information that a truck (NL01AB6544) loaded with liquor was coming from the Ghazipur side via Purvanchal Expressway and headed to Bihar via Bharauli. On seeing checking at Buxar border, the driver diverted his vehicle to Ballia road.The police team caught the truck near Sohanv petrol pump and arrested Achala Ram. Liquor of different brands was seized, packed in cartons, placed behind packs of eggs.
