Government employees have long hopes about the 8th Pay Commission, but so far no formal announcement has been made regarding its formation. The government had announced the Eighth Pay Commission earlier this year, but according to the Finance Ministry, no notification has been issued regarding the appointment of its president and members.

In response to a question asked in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary gave this information. He said that the process of formation of this commission is currently going on and for this inputs have been sought from various ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defense.

Appointment of CPC president and members hangs
The government made it clear that the 8th Pay Commission is under consideration, but the chairman of the Central Pay Commission (CPC) and its other members have not been appointed yet. MPs TR Balu and Anand Bhadoria asked why when this commission was announced in January, why its formation is being delayed so far. In response, the Minister of State for Finance said that when the Commission gives its recommendations and the government will accept them, only new pay scale will be implemented. But right now the Terms of Reference (Terms of Reference) i.e. the guidelines that decide the functioning of the Commission have not been decided.

MPs sought full details, demand for soon decision
The MPs have now demanded detailed information if the situation is not clear about the status of the Commission. He has asked that for so many months neither the commission was formed, nor the responsibility was fixed, nor the limit of its work was fixed. In response, the government said that the process is still going on and opinion is being taken from all necessary ministries. But it was not clear how long the Commission would come into a complete form of formation.

Why is Pay Commission formed?
Every 10 years a new Pay Commission is set up to review the salaries and allowances of central government employees and pensioners. Basic salary, dearness allowance (DA), bonus and other facilities are increased on the basis of the recommendations of this commission. The 7th Pay Commission came into force in 2016, and now the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are likely to be implemented in 2026. In such a situation, it is very important to make this commission on time and start work, so that the report can be presented on time and the employees can get the benefit.
