Aizawl: Seven villages in central Mizoram’s Serchhip district bordering Myanmar will be covered under the Vibrant Village Programme-2 (VVP-2), a meeting of the Serchhip District Level Committee on Vibrant Village Programme-2, chaired by district deputy commissioner Paul L Khuma, was informed on Thursday. The VVP-2 will be implemented in Keitum, Mualcheng, Lungkawlh, Bawktlang, North Vanlaiphai, Leng and Sailulak villages.
The deputy commissioner urged committee members to prepare Village Action Plans (VAP) for all selected villages within three months and to prioritise convergence of existing central schemes.Officials of Mizoram’s rural development & administration department said 109 villages in 16 rural development blocks along the Myanmar and Bangladesh border areas have been selected by the MHA for implementation of VVP-2, with 100% funding from the central govt.Under the programme, four thematic areas — all-weather road connectivity, telecommunication, connection for television and electricity (on-grid connectivity) — will be given first priority, the officials said. They added that 10 intervention areas — livelihood generation, road connectivity, villager infrastructure & health facilities, energisation; television & telecom connectivity, promotion of tourism, culture & outreach activities, financial inclusion, empowerment of youth & skill development, cooperative development, SHGs, FPOs and educational infrastructure — will also be prioritised.Unlike the Border Area Development Programme (BADP), which focused only on infrastructure, VVP-2 will prioritise livelihood and healthcare, along with improving ties with people in the mainland.
