Hyderabad: In this year’s Padma awards list, which was announced by the Centre on Sunday, seven people from Telangana were honoured. All of them were awarded Padma Shri. There were no Padma Vibhushan or Padma Bhushan awards for Telangana this year.The awardees are Chandramouli Gaddamanugu (science and engineering), Deepika Reddy (art), Guduru Venkat Rao (medicine), Krishnamurty Balasubramanian (science and engineering), Kumaraswamy Thangaraj (science and engineering), Palkonda Vijay Anand Reddy (medicine) and Rama Reddy Mamidi was awarded posthumously for his work in animal husbandry.Among the seven, four awards were for science and engineering, and one each for medicine, art and others (animal husbandry).Chandramouli was associated with key developments in the Defence Research and Development Organisation; Deepika Reddy is a Kuchipudi dancer, choreographer and dance teacher; Venkat Rao is a distinguished gastroenterologist; Balasubramanian is known for his work in advanced materials; Thangaraj is a senior scientist at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB); Palkonda Vijay is a senior oncologist; and Rama Reddy had been instrumental in modernising animal husbandry practices in the state.In addition, Dr Nori Dr Dattatreyudu, a globally renowned Indian American radiation oncologist from the US, was honoured with Padma Bhushan award under the NRI category. This recognition underscores his valuable contributions to cancer care,. Curently, he is serving as an adviser to both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana govts in this vital field.
