Dhubri: Amid allegations and an uproar over attempts to delete voters’ names during the Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls, the names of 65 “D” (doubtful) voters who allegedly enrolled by changing their identity were deleted from the final voter list of five assembly constituencies in Dhubri.“Legal action will be taken against these “D” voters who enrolled their names with different identities,” an official said.
Dhubri district commissioner Nabadeep Pathak said 6,329 voters were added compared to the previous list, taking the district’s total electorate to 12,17,797.Responding to allegations that 4,000 names were deleted in the 10 Bilasipara assembly constituency, the district commissioner said there were no irregularities in the SR process and that only the names of deceased voters, “D” voters, or illegal voters with duplicate entries in multiple places were removed.Dhubri election officer Sugata Goswami told TOI that the counting venue may be changed. Instead of the earlier venue at Bholanath College, officials were looking for a new venue where counting for all five assembly constituencies could be conducted under one roof. A source in the Dhubri district administration said revision of the voter list is now routine work for the election office and that doubtful voters would remain under scrutiny until all illegal names are removed.
