On Jan 25, police received information from an ESIC hospital that an unknown woman was brought there unconscious by two unknown persons in an e-rickshaw. The patient, who was unable to provide any information, was referred to GTB Hospital for further treatment. The next day, Uma’s son-in-law claimed that she briefly regained consciousness and told him that she fell on the road. She did not indicate any suspicion, he said.“Based on this, the case appeared to be of a simple fall. However, after Uma’s death on Wednesday, a 21-year-old witness from Maujpur came forward. He said that around 7.30pm on Jan 25, he was at his coffee stall near Vivek Vihar when he saw a rashly driven black motorcycle hitting a woman. There were two men on the bike,” a cop said.“The witness claimed that he helped the two passersby while they were placing the woman on the e-rickshaw. When he later learned that she succumbed to her injuries, he approached us,” the cop added.Police are now planning to book the accused under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS.
