Gorakhpur: The impact of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision for women’s economic empowerment under the state rural livelihood mission is clearly visible on the ground. Nearly 47,000 rural women in Gorakhpur division achieved financial self-reliance through the dairy sector, district magistrate (DM) Deepak Meena said.These women are associated with the Shri Baba Gorakhnath Kripa Milk Producer Organisation (MPO), formed under the Uttar Pradesh state rural livelihood mission with support from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Notably, the rural women themselves are shareholders in the organisation.Operational since Nov 26, 2023, the MPO has achieved a turnover of Rs 192 crore in two years and two months, till Jan 31, 2026. According to CEO Dhanraj Sahni, the organisation has, so far, disbursed over Rs 155 crore directly to women shareholders, significantly strengthening their household incomes.Women members collectively supply over 1.5 lakh litres of milk daily through over 500 milk pooling points across Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Deoria and Kushinagar districts. The milk is supplied to Mother Dairy. Around 2,000 women associated with the MPO have already emerged as ‘Lakhpati Didis’, while others earn an average monthly income of Rs 7,000–8,000 from home.Modelled on Bundelkhand’s successful Balini Milk Producer Company, the MPO distributed Rs 53.16 lakh as loyalty incentives and dividends to women shareholders on Diwali. Dividends were paid at Rs 8 per equity share, with a face value of Rs 100 per share, reflecting the growing success of women-led dairy entrepreneurship in the region.
