Gurgaon: A 45-year-old man died in suspicious circumstances at his home in Kherki Daula on Monday. Police initiated inquest proceedings after claims by the family that Sunil (45) suffered a heart attack. However, the autopsy was conducted by a board of doctors. According to sources, the victim sustained an injury caused by a sharp-edged object that struck the left side of his chest and punctured his heart.Police said the deceased, identified as Sunil (45), earlier worked with the Indian Navy but retired from his job and remained at home with his wife and two sons, including a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old boy.Sources said Sunil was at home with his wife when he fell ill on Sunday evening.

After he fell from his bed and got unconscious, his wife raised an alarm and took him to a private hospital in Gurgaon.“We received information from the hospital authorities about the victim’s death. When we asked the family, the victim’s son said that his father suffered a heart attack. Doctors however told us that there was an injury mark near the heart of the patient. When checked again with the family, they claimed that the victim, after falling from the bed, fell on a bowl, and thus the injury mark could be due to that. To double-check or clear the doubts, we got the autopsy done, which was conducted by the board of doctors at the local mortuary,” said a police officer. The officer added that after the autopsy, they got to know that the victim suffered an injury with a sharp-edged object which didn’t seem like an injury due to a bowl.“We are conducting our investigation, as according to the experts, it was surely not an accidental injury, and rather it seemed as if someone hit him near his chest with a sharp object, which also ruptured his heart. We will take appropriate action post our investigation,” a police officer privy to the case said.
