4-yr-old girl on bike dies after Chinese manja slits her throat

Hyderabad: A four-and-a-half-year-old girl died after her throat was slit by Chinese manja while she was travelling with her parents on a two-wheeler in Kukatpally on Monday evening.P Nishvikaditya, a kindergarten student from KPHB colony, was seated in front of her father on the bike when the incident occurred near Vivekananda Nagar. This is the second death linked to Chinese manja, a dangerous kite string, in Telangana this year. On Jan 14, Avadesh Kumar, a 38-year-old migrant worker from UP, died after his throat was reportedly slit by Chinese manja while he was riding a motorcycle in Sangareddy district.According to Kukatpally police, Nishvikaditya’s father, P Ramsagar, a private firm employee and a native of Ambajipeta in Andhra Pradesh, was heading home in Kukatpally from Kazipally near IDA Bollaram driving the bike, while his wife was riding pillion and the girl sat in front.Around 4.45 pm, as they reached near Vivekananda Nagar, the girl suddenly screamed in pain. Ramsagar stopped the bike and noticed his daughter was bleeding from her throat. On closer examination, the parents found a strand of Chinese manja tightly entangled around her neck. They removed the thread and rushed her to a private hospital in Kukatpally.“However, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted,” Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy said.Police suspect the manja may have flown in from a nearby area or was possibly dangling from a passing heavy vehicle and accidentally wrapped around the child’s neck as the bike moved.Police have registered a case under section 106 (1) (causing death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The girl’s body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.Officials said more than a dozen people have suffered injuries across the state this year due to the banned thread, raising renewed concerns over its continued use despite repeated warnings and enforcement drives.
