Berhampur: Forest personnel on Tuesday arrested four poachers from Budhamba village under Ghumusar South forest division’s Badagada range in Ganjam district. Wildlife organs like dry meat and bones of wild boar, porcupine quills along with three country-made guns, an axe, wooden catapults, sharp cutting weapons, mud pellets, lead and explosives have been seized from them, said Pradeep Kumar Behera, assistant conservator of forests (ACF), Ghumusar South forest division. The accused persons were identified as Ayan Rait (35), Subudhi Mandal (62), Jakab Sabar (54) and Buda Sabar (50), all residents of Budhamba under Badagada police station limits, he said.Acting on a tip-off, forest personnel raided the houses of the accused. Forest officials suspect that the accused persons might have killed the wild animals some months ago and stored their parts in their respective houses. Porcupine quills are often sold on the black market.
