Guwahati: A clash between students of two hostels of Cotton University on Tuesday night left four students injured, who are currently undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).According to police sources, students of Seeta Nath Brahma Choudhury (SNBC) hostel and Shahid Ranjit Barpujari (SRB) hostel clashed over a football match during the ongoing varsity week.
Sources from the SNBC hostel alleged that a few SRB hostel boarders, venting their frustration after having lost the match, allegedly attacked a few SNBC hostel borders with sharp weapons, injuring students who were all first-semester boarders of SNBC hostel.While students belonging to SNBC hostel alleged that SRB boarders were upset with certain decisions going against them during the match, SRB boarders lodged a police complaint against a few SNBC hostel borders.So far, 11 SRB boarders have been identified for their involvement, though their names have not been disclosed.On condition of anonymity, a student, who had witnessed the attack said tension had been brewing between the two hostels as SNBC students had recently won the students’ body election and were performing well at the varsity week events.The student further said the clash seemed to be pre-planned.
